At BoxBox Renovations, we believe in honest, upfront communication. While we’re excited to get started, we typically aren’t able to begin work immediately. During your initial consultation, we’ll provide an estimated start date and walk you through the factors that affect scheduling — such as strata approvals, city permits, and our current project lineup.
We schedule projects on a first come, first served basis, and while we always aim to stick to the timeline, unexpected variables can occasionally cause delays. If you ever have questions about your projected start date, feel free to reach out to us at boxboxrenos@gmail.com.
We’ll always keep you in the loop and do our best to ensure a smooth and well-prepared lead-up to your renovation.

Once you’ve approved the design concept and finish selections, we’ll prepare a detailed budget estimate for your review. This will include a breakdown of projected costs across the different phases of your project, giving you a clear view of where your investment is going.
It’s important to note that this is a preliminary estimate, not a final quote. Material costs and labor pricing can fluctuate due to market conditions. While we do our best to provide accurate and up-to-date pricing, adjustments may occur as the project moves forward. Rest assured — we’ll keep you informed of any significant changes along the way.

Your project timeline depends on several key steps. After your consultation, once you've reviewed the proposal, signed the contract, and submitted your deposit, we move forward into the next phase.
The biggest factor influencing start dates is permitting. Preparing and submitting permit applications can take anywhere from 1 to 6 months, depending on:
· The scope of work (larger home renos typically take longer than condo updates)
· Strata approvals (if applicable)
· Consultation needs (e.g. structural, energy, or architectural specialists)
· Response times from third parties
Once submitted, the timeline for approval is in the hands of the city. For reference:
· Condo permits in Vancouver: approx. 1–2 months
· House permits: can range from 2–6+ months, depending on complexity and the municipality
While we wait for permit approval, we use the time to order materials and plan logistics, ensuring we’re ready to go once the permit is in place.
If there’s a specific window that works best for you — like during a vacation or downtime — let us know. We’ll do our best to align the schedule to fit your ideal start time. Keep in mind that once a permit is issued, you have up to one year to begin construction, allowing flexibility in your start date.

In most cases, yes. Projects that involve structural modifications, plumbing or electrical work, or changes to walls—such as moving a light switch or removing even a non-load-bearing wall—generally require permits.
At Boxbox, we take regulatory compliance seriously. Securing the proper permits isn’t just a legal requirement—it’s also essential for protecting your investment and ensuring your insurance coverage remains intact. Cutting corners on permits can lead to costly fines and unnecessary risks, which we avoid at all costs.
Our team manages the entire permitting process for you. From preparing detailed technical drawings to coordinating any required reports or approvals, we handle it all. Your role is simply to review and sign the documents—we take care of the rest, ensuring a smooth and worry-free experience.

The need for professional approvals depends on the scope and complexity of your project. Structural modifications, for example, will require sign-off from a structural engineer, and new construction projects also typically require engineering review.
In some instances, additional professionals—such as energy consultants—may be involved to provide reports based on your design and local code requirements. We also coordinate directly with licensed plumbers and electricians to obtain any necessary trade-specific permits.
At Boxbox, we manage this entire process on your behalf to ensure everything is handled smoothly and in compliance with regulations. Your involvement will be minimal—just a few signatures and occasional access to your home so we can keep things moving efficiently.
